Doing Your Practice

Thinking about your practice: that’s thinking.

Waiting for the right moment to practice: that’s waiting.
Waiting for your body to be ready: that’s waiting.
Waiting for your mind to be quiet: that’s waiting.

Telling people you’re going to practice: that’s talking.

Posting about your practice on social media: that’s posting.

Needing others to witness your practice: that’s needing.

Comparing your practice to someone else’s: that’s comparing.

Hating yourself for not practicing: that’s hating.
Hating those who seem ahead in their practice: that’s hating.
Hating the obstacles in the way of your practice: that’s hating.

Wishing your practice was different: that’s wishing.

Being attached to the results of your practice: that’s clinging.

Endlessly consuming content about your practice: that’s consuming.

Reading this poem: that’s reading.

Doing your practice. Nothing else is.
